"Abandoned" by parents in Italy! Stories of Albanian minors...
In the last 3 years alone, there are 1600 registered Albanian minors who requested shelter, food and care from the Italian state, declaring themselves unaccompanied or "abandoned" by their parents. In Italy and Albania, the authorities have launched investigations into these parents who "abandon" their children thinking that they are giving them a better life in the neighboring country, but their future is not certain. It is not just a matter of transitory difficulties, but also the risk of minors being involved in the clutches of organized crime and traffic networks. And while "abandoned" children are facing dangers to their parents in Albania, the prosecution has started investigations in some cases after referral by the police, while our criminal code provides for 3 years in prison. Official Tirana has responded to the concerns of the authorities in Rome by strengthening measures at the border and by placing responsibility on parents who go to Italy with their children and return... alone. The journalist of the show "31 Minutes" Antonio Çakshiri was in Modena and Parma where he talked with Albanian minors there and leaders of social Services in these Italian cities.
